Name : Shunsuke Tsutsumi 堤 俊輔
Position : Central defender / Right-back / Defensive midfield
DOB : 8 Jun 1987
Tsutsumi was a bright hope for Japan as a defender when he came through the ranks at Urawa Reds but then drifted away from the group of top players in his age group and ended up going out on loan to J2 clubs.
Now on a full contract at Avispa he has all the physical and technical ability to be one of the best defenders in the division.
The reason it hasn’t really worked out for him so far is more mental than a lack of footballing ability as he can look like he is switched off at times, and even disinterested.
After his first season at the club I think few supporters would have minded if he had gone back to Urawa when his loan ended but then given more responsibility after Pusnik came to the club he was our best player by the middle of the season.
His performances dropped off a little, but on his day he is our best player for a variety of positions due to his physique and ability. I think he needs to settle in one position, I actually like him in midfield if he can keep running, and should be an important player for us.
