The other club from Osaka (although they actually play in nearby Suita), they had been the more successful having remained in J-League 1 every year since it’s inception, and holding a top flight status going all the way back to 1988, until 2012 when amazingly they ended up being relegated.
Have a huge budget and will be as much of a shock as relegation if they don’t get instant promotion back to J1.
They have based their team around national team stalwart Yasuhito Endo for the last decade and always been competing for the Championship (but only won it once).
Having more success in Cup competitions they have won the Emperors Cup twice, Nabisco Cup once and Asian Cup once, all in the last 5 years.
Take their name from the Italian for leg, which happily also sounds a bit like Gambatte (japanese for trying ones best).
