As FC Tokyo swapped places with Avispa Fukuoka many Tokyo fans were a little perturbed that Shigematsu was allowed to come to Avispa, and somewhat relieved that it was only on loan rather than on a permanent basis.
Having seen him play I understand their consternation as he looks to be a very promising prospect. Having already played for Japan U18 and U19, and scored 3 times in J1 as an 18 year old it was already known that he was a good player, and probably only sees Avispa as a temporary step towards a bigger club in the future.
Should be playing as our main striker with Jogo somewhere behind him in my opnion.
Went back to FC Tokyo where he hasn’t had much of a chance, including during a loan spell at Kofu. Would love to see him back at Avispa.
