Keisuke Shimizu arrives as keeper.   Leave a comment

With Mizutani gone to Toyama it meant we were in need of a new keeper and one arrived yesterday as 25 year old Shimizu came in on loan from Oita.

He is only 25 but has been a professional for 7 years, playing matches for the last 3 including nearly every match when Oita got promotion to J1.
He only played a quarter of their games last season in J1, but still seems to have the experience and ability to compete with Kamiyama for the pick as first choice goal keeper.

After doing well in the final few games of the season, including a man of the match performance which ended up with him being picked for team of the moth for J2, I’d expect Kamiyama to keep hold of the shirt for at least the start of the season, but he won’t be able to sit cal and relax knowing there is someone else ready and able to play behind him.

One small concern for me is that he isn’t very big for a keeper at just 183cm.
