Kanamori gets called to the U21s.   Leave a comment

In what is turning out to be a very good year for Takeshi Kanamori he now ads a call-up to the U21 team to the earlier U19 cap he received.

It has been an incredible year for a guy who was playing high school level football this time last year, but after being given an opportunity in the first team at Avispa grabbed it with both hands and really showed what he can do.

For anyone who doesn’t really follow Avispa, but is reading about the U-21 team, he is a quick, and feisty forward who generally plays on either side of a central attacker, but likes to cut inside and hit the box.
He is a confident guy who can run with the ball at his feet, and despite being fairly small takes hits well and has no problem putting in a few tasty tackles of his own.
His confidence extends to taking shots at goal and he scored 6 goals (?) last season, including in 3 games in a row.

He does like to go for goal, but is also getting much better at playing a pass at the right time, with his goal in the final season after some link-up with Punosevac being a highlight.
He had an inclination to try and do too much at times with his dribbling, but had some tough love from the manager to break him out of that and should now start dribbling when it will hurt teams a bit better.

I am a bit disappointed for Mishima in that he didn’t get a call. For me he is the better of the 2 young players, and his versatility adds something to a tournament type squad.
Unfortunately outside of tournament play a manager might think he wants designated players, but in 3-4 years I think Mishima will be seen as by far the better player.

Elsewhere in the U-21 team there are a few other J2 players in it. Obviously it is very ambitious to think there is any chance of getting players like these who have already ‘made it’ to representative level, but as I’ve mentioned a few times before all of them would be better and cheaper than the 34 year old players we seem to get each year in some position (and are players we might be able to see in Level-5 next year).
