vs. Tokyo Verdy (youtube)   3 comments

Someone has a nice clip of the first goal of the season; Jogo’s header to win the game against Tokyo Verdy.

A corner by Omata is only half cleared and recycled by Sakata back to Omata to send another cross in.

Jogo meets the ball very well (his heading is often over-looked when people think of some of his amazing goals) and knocks the ball past the keeper.
Tokyo need to look at their defending; if Jogo had missed it I think Kazuki would have been the next to get to it.

Things I like about this goal:
– The corner wasn’t smashed to the back post like nearly every corner last year.
– Sakata has taken up a very good position on the edge of the box. He could be for a ball played short, or to recycle second ball.
– Pusnik telling them to get back and in position. We conceded so many goals just after scoring last year and the job wasn’t finished.

  1. Totally agree with you, especially with regards to Pusnik. That is definitely the type of leader we need, someone who will let the players have a bit of fun after the goal but still have the presence of mind to bring them back to reality afterwards. It was so frustrating celebrating our goals last season only to see us get scored on as soon as I jumped out of my chair đŸ˜¦

  2. I also heard that Sakata was straight back at the centre circle after the goal to be ready to play on and stop a quick restart.
The team seems a lot better organised this year, it’s a shame that promotion from J2 is probably going to be much harder this year.

    • I was just thinking the same thing. I still have a good amount of faith in this team, despite everything, but I think it would be a miracle to see them in playoff position, much less gain direct promotion. Anything is possible in this sport though, so we’ll have to wait and see how things play out. Like you said, we’ve look much more organized as a unit this early, hopefully that translates into more wins.
