Approaching the final 3rd of the season, and well off the play-of places we have done the strange thing of signing a new Brazilian import called Osmar Francisco Moreira Jesuino, or Osmar for short.
I think it is quite strange as we won’t be able to go up this season even if we throw loads of cash at new players, and the huge problem areas have been in central midfield and defence but we have just signed a new striker.
Samir has been on the bench all season despite doing nothing wrong, and now we have even more numbers fighting for a striker position.
It makes me think that this has been done with next season in mind. Either by the player and his agent trying to get him games and put him in the shop window, or after a promising debut that maybe he will stay at Avispa next season.
He is 25 years old, and at 180cm / 78kg, quite a stocky striker with quick feet and a low centre of gravity.
He went straight onto the bench and had 30 minutes to show what he could do against Shonan, during which time he had some great movement showed nice pace and was always trying to get into the action. It will take him some time to get used to the Japanese game, and he appeared to be quite feisty and care about the game.
There is almost nothing about him on the internet apart from his previous two clubs, lower division teams in the Rio Grande league.
As well as his decent performance on Sunday the most positive thing was his impact on Samir. They only had 6 minutes on the pitch together, but during this time Samir looked twice the player he has before with some excellent movement, and real heart in trying to work for the team despite the game being all but lost.
I really hope the two of them are given a chance to play together and when it happens to score enough to become first team names for this season and next. It definitely has a good look as a striker – forward partnership.
Predictably I think he has come from the same agency as Samir and Ramazzotti as there is another similar showcase video on youtube…
