vs. Roasso Kumamoto (preview)   Leave a comment

The long wait over the winter is over and we are about to start a new campaign in J2.

I am more optimistic for Avispa than all other pundits I’ve read and watched so far, thinking that we have the best team in the time I have watched the club and believing we should be pushing for automatic promotion.

After 2 seasons of the attack picking itself through a lack of personnel it is now one of the biggest questions. Yutaka would seem to be playing after being picked as Captain, Sakata and Naruoka will have to make do with places on the wing despite being the 2 highest quality attackers, which leaves one spot left.
I would guess will get the nod as a chance to start fresh. If he starts the season confident and in the goals we have a serious team.

Suzuki and Sueyoshi will start in the middle as home-town boys being given the chance to lose their spot rather than win it back. Both should be too good for this division.

Defence could be anyone of 7-8 players, but I really hope Kim plays.

Opposition
Roasso are a firmly mid-table team, which isn’t something they should be too disappointed by as a young team.
Of more concern to them should be rumours about their finances, which are not considered the healthiest and may see them overtaken by Giravanz in the Kyushu hierachy.

They have had troubles scoring goals, and have brought in a couple of attackers over the winter. Choi from Tochigi becomes one of 2 recognised strikers in the squad (and not a very high quality one at that), with big-name signing Chikara Fujimoto dropping from J1 to provide some creativity. Yabu will get his debut on the wing.

Defensively they are much stronger with a settled back 2 who have a season experience behind them, and veteran keeper Minami being reliable in goal.

My Prediction
Avispa Fukuoka 4 – 0 Roasso Kumamoto

This game will show whether my optimism for the season is misplaced and I need to fall back in line with more conservative expectations.

I think we will play a creative game, and one with a midfield and attack who can all score and will be looking to do so knowing that there is competition for places.

Yutaka to get 2 in a good performance as Captain against his former club.
