I’m not sure if it is official but I’ve heard news that Daiki won’t be wearing the Captain’s armband for the upcoming season having had it passed on to Kosuke Nakamachi.
It isn’t a big surprise as it was obvious at the end of last season that he wanted to take some sort of captain’s role as he was leading the team across the pitch at times and generally acting like he was already captain, and to be fair to him his performances deserved that.
I hope it doesn’t do any harm to the spirit in the squad as Daiki had always seemed very popular, and I guess that it may have something to do with the contract situation. The club really needed to keep hold of Nakamachi as the started J1, and while Daiki has been at the club for 2 1/2 seasons now he is still not officially an Avispa player.
With just 3 weeks to go before the start of the season and 2 very important games in the first 2 weeks, Avispa have been having a few training matches against some of our Kyushu rivals left back in J2.
Avoiding injuries is more important than results in these games, and they are more useful in seeing who is playing rather than grinding out wins.
The first game was against Giranvanz Kitakyushu and ended in a 1-1 draw with Sueyoshi scoring the only goal for Avispa. After a season of being obvious first team selection I think having the competition for spaces from Shimizu, as well as experience he provides will be good for Sueyoshi.
The second game was against Roasso Kumamoto and looks to have been a more exciting 3-3 draw. Played across 4 quarters the first Avispa goal was scored by Ishizu who is still listed as a Fukuoka Uni player but looks like he might be linked with the club again. The next two goals scored by Yusuke and Hideya who will both be facing a season which will decide whether they are going to have a career in J1 or J2.
