It’s Sunday and it is pouring with rain.
I’m about to try to make the 90 minute drive down to Kumamoto to watch my first Avispa away game, not knowing what the stadium is like and fully expecting to get absolutely soaking wet.
The mayor of Kumamoto has been telling the town to come along and support the club so despite the rain their should be a good turn out.
After a decent run of form in the middle part of the season Roasso have tailed off a little since the World Cup break and are now back around mid-table.
Despite this they still have the players to give any team a match, and as a Kyushu derby in the rain won’t be an easy game.
Avispa will be looking to bounce straight back after their loss to Kashiwa, and apart from the home defeat to Tosu have won every game against Kyushu opposition this season.
Having said that Jumbo should be dropped for this game I now think he should play because of the weather. A short passing game isn’t going to be possible, with direct balls up to Jumbo perhaps a better tactic. This will only work if there is a greater willingness to shoot from distance.
At the moment only Sueyoshi seems to be doing this, and with a wet ball in difficult conditions it needs to utilised more.
Roasso kumamoto 0 – 0 Avispa Fukuoka
I really hope that Avispa can sneak a goal, but can only really see it happening from a corner. If they have been set up with instructions to shoot on sight then hopefully someone will manage to get one.
